THE STORY

Through the book of Enrico Checchinato, we were inspired to organize trips with the Alfa Romeo Matta AR51. This book explains everything about the creation, philosophy, construction, the whole history as well as important details about the car. We referenced it every day of restoring the Matta.
As a young man Enrico had written many exciting stories about Matta's going on adventurous trips. He wrote down all the information in a book called
- il viaggio della pace - The journey of peace
Traveling in white Matta's through the war zones of the Far East, towards Asia/China.
Through South America, Africa or the famous Mille Miglia and several other rides were on the program.
But especially the trip to Cape North fascinated us.
Due to the rebuilding of the Matta's we got many tips from Enrico. His book was, so to speak, our bedtime lecture. Today, through this exchange, we have become very good friends.

What is the plan or where is the road leading?

The plan is to drive a self-restored Alfa Romeo AR51 from Switzerland, via Germany and Denmark to Norway and ultimately Cape North. From there onback via Sweden to Switzerland.

WHEN SHOULD IT START ? ON JUNE 02. 2023
It was planned to start the journey on May 26, 2022.

Unfortunately, must be POSTPONED ! due to COVID (technical engine problems) we had to
postpone our trip for 1 year.

What do you need for this adventure?
- 2 car enthusiasts or crazy people who want to discover the world...
- An old, rusty Alfa, which was looking for a new owner and found it...
- Countries waiting to be explored by two, resp. three traveling adventurers...

NOW ABOUT MY CHARACTER

Hello, my name is "Matta".
I was born in 1950 in Arese IT as part of a competition between Fiat and Alfa Romeo.
I am an Alfa Romeo product.
My real name is Alfa Romeo AR51 Matta.
I was created for my country Italy.
Exactly... for the defense sector, in which I served for 27 years.
Then they didn't want me anymore because I was too old.

So I was auctioned off and found myself working for a wine producer in Modena’s countryside,
surrounded by vines and Lambrusco grapes (che delizia).
But even there after some time they didn't want me anymore as time passed.

One day I remember well, a gentleman arrived with a car and a trailer.
I had a strange feeling,
because I had been taken out of the barn and I had to stand outside.

HE GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND I LOOKED INTO HIS EYES!
SI, SI, IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT !

Although I was not in good shape, with so many dents and accumulated rust.
He touched me and said, "I will take you - I want you!"
And so it happened that he took me to Switzerland.
The day after, he washed me beautifully and thus realized my true potential!

Over the course of 3 years he got me back into shape!
- the whole body (dented)
- the whole engine (overhauled)
- the whole chassis (renewed)
- all the rust (removed)
- the whole electrical system (replaced)
- so EVERYTHING, literally!!!

Now I feel great - young, dynamic, strong and above all: Ready!
The best part is, that I even got my original 1950’s color back, military green!!!!
!!! YAAAY !!!

I am really beautiful!
One day my new owner told me:
"the 3 of us are going on a long trip" and I thought to myself: "the 3 of us ? and above all where to?"

And he said: to CAPE NORTH!

Yippeeeh! I was so excited!
Me, together with two wonderful people

Yes, I am the crazy one!

A tough working car from Italy’s military history. I know for sure that I will never be disposed of and my services will be in demand for a long time to come. My childhood years were spent in the wine country, chauffeuring grapes and driving daily through the fields and woods. Being dirty was my hobby and dirt under the hood was my favorite dress. I loved those days very much.

Then I had to rest in an old barn for many years until a compatriot from Switzerland discovered me and gave me a new home. Cecco searched for me for a long time and immediately became infatuated with me. I was very happy to finally start my 1st trip abroad and my new patron promised me that we’ll discover the whole world together. I am very excited fort hat!

Cecco

A hair artist became a classic car restorer. The creativity and motivation to beautify people is endless. His head is constantly breaking apart, becausethere is never enough space for all his ideas and thoughts. His skill and passion are recently also noticeable in fancy car rarities. Precise and in love with details - "old" becomes "new" and super exclusive. Dreams become reality and everyday life becomes passion. As the saying goes: Life is too short to be boring. You should enjoy every day as if it were your last.

Emi / Monti

As an Incident-Manager becomes a route planner and organizational juggler. Precision and patience are his remarkable traits and craftsmanship is rootedin his genes. Furthermore, he loves traveling and as you might guess, adventure. Gourmet is his middle name. The phrase "I don't like" doesn't exist unless you've tried it :-), What else would you expect from a gourmet? Emi e un buon gustaio.
